ICBC has implemented a continuity plan to allow business to continue in the extraordinary circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are temporarily offering ICBC transactions by phone & email. This page will outline what transactions we can perform and which ones are unavailable.
ICBC is updating these guidelines as time permits. Please check back for updates as different transactions may become possible at a later date.
The Following ICBC Transactions are Possible via Phone and email
- Renewals or Policy Changes paid on payment plan or credit card
- Temporary Operating Permits paid by credit card
- Storage Policies paid by credit card
- Changing bank information for an existing payment plan
Requirements:
- You must be paying with credit card, or enrolled on the payment plan.Â
- You must have access to an email account to send and receive email. We must be able to document your consent to send transactions to you electronically. Verbal consent will not be adequate.

Note: We may be experiencing a higher call volume than usual. If you are unsuccessful in speaking directly with an agent during our normal business hours, please try again later or email our office with your phone number and an agent will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
Transactions our office does not do by phone/email:
- Vehicle registrations or transfers
- Issue new plates
Deferred Monthly Payments
ICBC is also allowing customers on the monthly payment plan the option to defer their payments. More information on this option can be found online here.

FAQ about ICBC Transactions
How can I pre-pay my monthly payment? – You cannot prepay monthly payments over the phone. Deposit the money into your bank account or request a payment deferral from ICBC directly at 1-800-665-6442 or the link provided below.
How can I defer my monthly payment? – ICBC is allowing customers on the monthly payment plan the option to defer their payments for up to 90 days. Visit https://onlinebusiness.icbc.com/eforms/ or call 1-800-665-6442.
How can I pay a violation ticket? – Effective March 25, 2020 customers must pay tickets online at https://pay.gov.bc.ca/
What if my driver’s license is expiring? – Those needing to extend their licences can call ICBC’s Driver Licensing Call Centre at 1-800-950-1498.
What if I need to change my driver license address? – Go to https://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/getting-licensed/Pages/Change-your-address-or-name.aspx or call ICBC’s Driver Licensing Call Centre at 1-800-950-1498.
Can I transfer vehicle ownership? – Our office is not processing vehicle ownership transactions over the phone. Please call first to ensure our staff will be able to help you that day.

I am looking to take my car off of the road for the duration of my unemployment. I would like to cancel my insurance policy please. If you could direct me in the direction necessary to make that happen I would be most grateful.
You can either attend an office to surrender the plate. If you are not able to safely attend an office due to the current pandemic conditions, and have access to a phone AND an email address, we will be able to look at cancelling the policy for you. Need to renew insurance policies on 3 vehicles
Our offices are still doing transactions, but are not having clients walk in and out of the office. Sometimes a transaction is possible, just by passing the paperwork through the door. Or, if you have access to an email address and are paying by credit card or monthly installment, we can do the transaction by phone or email. Then, we will reply with a legal disclaimer and you must reply “I agree”. We’ll then give you a phone call to discuss your coverage and any changes necessary. If you have any questions before sending the first email, please call the office to talk with an agent.
